FENG SHUI FOR DOUBTERS

Were you aware that Feng Shui practitioners and masters have been fighting climate changes for 4,000 years?  Were you aware that they knew the principles that govern modern day Permaculture well before the coming of Christ?

One of the wonders I find the deeper I delve into Feng Shui is how terrifically modern it is.  Take the following quote from Sir Jonathon Porrit "The future will be green, or not at all. This truth lies at the heart of humankind's most pressing challenge: to learn to live in harmony with the Earth on a genuinely sustainable basis".  The very ground Feng Shui is based on is learning to recognize the energies present in any given location.  And all of us have the talent to some degree.  You know when you go to a party whether or not you’re going to have a good time or want to leave as soon as possible.  You’re just reading the energy of the party.  And that’s Feng Shui!

When I’m called for a consultation, there are usually portions of the home or business that just don’t seem to work and my client wants to know why and how to fix it.  Those areas are not in harmony with the space.  If we’re successful, my client and I are able to effect such cures so the energy goes right and everything works.  OK, now start to blow this up.  Big.  Now bigger.  And bigger yet.  It’s what we need to be able to survive on this planet.  We’ve ignored the signals, the sha chi in people, in the actions of nations, in corporate greed, in supposed medical advances with bigger better pills and treatments.

The changes that we are witnessing now are just small indications that our car is running out of oil (a doubled edged analogy!) and we’re starting to grind to a halt.  Take another look at the energy map used in all schools of Feng Shui, the BaGua:

If you knew nothing about Feng Shui but you saw this, most would say that they are all important.  Even more important, they need to be in balance with one another.  Then take another look at the tai chi:

Notice that no matter how you cut it in half, both elements are always present.  Their proportion is always changing, but there is always a balance.  This is one of the most profound messages Feng Shui has for the world.

Guy Dauncey summed it up rather well. “"Taken together, our efforts are like drops of dew that slowly accumulate in the soul of the world, hastening the day when the entire Earth, with all its peoples and creatures, will enjoy harmony and fulfillment".

Go green, buy local and find the balance in your life.  Every bit helps.
